Hello, my name is Sara Friedman. My husband and I are parents to 8 gorgeous kids. Our daughter Yael has had a very special, very challenging childhood.
She was born completely “normal.” For 12 years she was a regular, fun-loving, sweet little girl. Then, just after her bas mitzvah, her life changed forever. When she had her first seizure, and she collapsed and started writhing on the floor, we were terrified and confused. It wasn’t long before she was diagnosed with severe epilepsy. Over time the seizures became more and more frequent. We took her for major surgery this year, but our worst nightmare came true -- rather than getting better, she got worse.
Now, her life is in danger. Every seizure has the potential to kill. She has around 20 seizures a day. She collapses and hurts herself. She can’t even sit on a chair. She must be supervised by a family member 24 hours a day.
Doctors have told us that we must go to America, to get her a surgery by an expert surgeon in Cleveland.
Affording this trip, and the expenses during the rehabilitation are completely impossible for us. First of all I’ve had to quit my job to stay home with Yael. That means we’re a family of 10, living off of one income. At this point, our savings are depleted.
I can’t tell you how painful it has been for me to tell Yael, a young teenager who could have a whole life ahead of her, that there is a way out of her suffering, but that we cannot give it to her, because we can’t afford it.
I am begging you, from the bottom of a mother’s heart. If you can help at all, it would mean so much to us. Somehow, we must make it to America to save her life. But we so desperately need help.
If you help us you should be blessed to have healthy children. And if your kids are healthy, please hold them close and kiss them, because we never dreamed that this would happen. We want our happy Yael back. Thank you. Sara
